The Milwaukee Choristers present the World Premiere of THE GIFT TO SING
On October 18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and November 1 in Detroit, Michigan, the Choristers of Milwaukee presented the world premiere of THE GIFT TO SING composed by Judith M. Baity. This piece is a choral musical setting of a little known poem by James Weldon Johnson, the African-American poet who penned the words to LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING. Ms Baity, as well as Robert Morris of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Robert Harris of Chicago, Illinois were commissioned to compose music using texts selected from the artistically creative Harlem Renaissance period of the 1920's and 1930's.
This music was the centerpiece of the special concerts, entitled "Exploring Heritage Connections".
